Last night I finished work early and thought it would be a good chance to catch up on some well needed mat time thanks to a post drinking; weekend forfeit of bjj. So with a little under half an hour before a class I headed to the Labs.
Like something out of a manic episode I strolled into the labs and gave everyone the nod only to realise half way through pulling up my gi pants that I had arrived 5 minutes towards the end of the class. Oops. In a major case of wire crossing and contemplating/viewing timetables for/visiting other gyms I finally succumbed to looking like a Muppet. Nevermind.
Fortunately all that timetable goggling left me in the knowledge that Predators (A gym I hadn’t visited but know a few of the fighters) had a class starting in 5 minutes. Armed with some sketchy directions from my man Chris I found it, and had a great session.
Anyway for a number of reasons I have been contemplating doing the following: Visiting all the gyms in the Manchester area.
Maybe its because I am struggling to come to terms with being in one place after an awesome slog round Australia but I like the idea of getting to know fighters for journalism purposes. Oh and also the really good coaches in the area which I can learn from.
I am in a good enough position of not competing whilst I am studying (3 years except maybe summer holidays) to get by without treading on any toes. I’m not talking regular training by any means. I will always be a part of Factory BJJ and Combat Base. Its more about networking within the sport.
And besides, as much as I would love to pretend I was taking the train to Conney Island to fight the Baseball Furies I just don’t think the world is ready for gang mma… or is it?
