The end?

So where is the blog? Its not really going off right now as you can tell and in all honesty I think I am moving towards new projects. Im not sad about it or anything, I have really enjoyed documenting my escapades of Jiu Jitsu and the friends I met along the way.

One thing is for sure though, I will still be doing Jiu Jitsu. If anything even more so this year, with numerous ideas in the pipeline surrounding photography, coaching and competing. Sadly though, with my studies also a priority ArtofJits will now be but a memoir.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of it including the kind sponsorship from MMA Outlet, I tried to keep it fresh by not bombarding people with what I thought a technique was.. but instead provide all my own content (which I did, and am proud of apart from ONE borrowed picture) however consitant it has been. The page will still exsist as a wordpress and I may even update it from time to time if it seems relevant.

For now you will  find me on the mats.

Collaboration Cool

In what can only be described as the best diplomatic move made in the world today (It doesn’t take much thanks to WikiLeaks) or maybe even the week; the unthinkably cool Scramble apparel just became available from the Internet’s best supplier of MMA Gear MMA Outlet.

If it comes down to a nuclear fallout then at least we will all look good on a mass scale. And just in time for Christmas.

Check out Gregos recent aquirment of some of this excellent gear over at dirtywhitegi just in case you need another reason to believe this shit is global.

Can you diiiig it?

Last night I finished work early and thought it would be a good chance to catch up on some well needed mat time thanks to a post drinking; weekend forfeit of bjj. So with a little under half an hour before a class I headed to the Labs.

Like something out of a manic episode I strolled into the labs and gave everyone the nod only to realise half way through pulling up my gi pants that I had arrived 5 minutes towards the end of the class. Oops. In a major case of wire crossing and contemplating/viewing timetables for/visiting other gyms I finally succumbed to looking like a Muppet. Nevermind. Continue reading

Grandma supports my fighting ways

Yup, we inherited a very cool Singer sewing machine from  my Gran and before I could let my girl have a go of it I decided to try stitching a patch. Its non a bad attempt for a first go. I experimented on my favorite Gi with the Combat Base patch off Haueter!

Hairy Times

I got these really cool T shirts through from MMA Outlet after a lengthy wait thanks to British customs, who many of you will agree are an absolute nightmare when it comes to getting anything from abroad. They were worth the wait though. DSTRYR sub grappling is a really cool blog by Francisco Arias (recently interviewed by Liam here) who is also a great and humorous designer of cool grappling related wares.

Asides from being obviously cool designs they break the mold from the sad state of affairs that is currently fight related clothing. These shirts ooze quality with their screen print designs and are at the top of my list with the likes of Scramble and All Elbows when it comes to rocking the lifestyle.

I hope he makes some more real soon.

What do hooks have?

Sticks according to Gaz.

Barbs according to Chris Haueter; tonight was the second seminar at Factory with Chris and the first in the new place (which isn’t so new anymore) and as always it was epic fun.

Full time student rest of the time…

Finding it hard to find time… doesn’t really make sense but blogging is on the back burner at the moment in between the goings on of University and my masquerade as some kind of MMA journalist. Oh and training. I will never stop training :)

Last night I covered Cage Conflict 7 in Accrington..? Which is in near Blackburn. It was a great show for a small event. I was there for two reasons. To hone my skills for yourmma.tv and to watch my good friend Gaz Pilot in his second professional fight. Needless to say Gaz delivered the goods with some slick standing back control and a RNC to boot. Cant wait to train with him again soon as he was the last person to smash me before I left for Oz in March.

The Fight Game – Early Days

I missed out on the chance to shoot the UFC a week back but timing wise it was probably a blessing as being a student, I’m still getting used to having no money. I did however do a smaller show this weekend in Stockport in the incarnation of UCC. You can view the write up here.

Combat Base Training Day

Yesterday I popped my knee and tweaked my shoulder. I’m not usually injury prone so I guess two in a day makes up for a good run. My first thought when I did my knee was “Oh no, the training day!”. Fortunately the pain subsided and I carried on rolling. It felt a bit weak that night and the same this morning…

It was a good enough excuse for me to be lazy at the Combat Base training day which went down today at Caged Steel in Dewsbury and opt to be photographer. Probably just as well given the mat space was limited with the Combat Base growing faster than a weighed in fighter. Continue reading

Finding stride

I talked a lot with people whilst I was away and since I have gotten back about wanting to put everything together from Australia in regular training. Part of that may be a mental block in thinking I could have been training better. The difference I see now however is that when I went away I was literally a brand new purple belt training in other peoples clubs. Now the take is I’m a purple belt who has got 6 months experience of training in different clubs. Continue reading
